About the Role
As our Care Practitioner, you will:
- Lead and coordinate the school’s approach to health, medical and personal care.
- Develop, review and monitor Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs).
- Work in partnership with families, medical professionals and staff across the school.
- Deliver and support safe medical procedures in line with training and pupil care plans.
- Promote dignity, privacy, independence and pupil voice in all aspects of care.
- Respond confidently and calmly during medical incidents and emergencies.
- Maintain accurate digital records, including medication logs, incident reports and care monitoring.
- Support, coach and develop staff to ensure high-quality, safe and confident care practice.
- Ensure that practice aligns with national guidance, the SEND Code of Practice and the Equality Act.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- A relevant qualification (HLTA, NVQ Level 3+, RQF Health & Social Care or equivalent).
- Experience supporting children or young people with medical or care needs.
- Excellent communication, organisation and digital-recording skills.
- Calm, confident leadership during care routines or incidents.
- A commitment to inclusion, pupil dignity and safeguarding.
Desirable:
- Experience in special education or residential care.
- Paediatric or emergency first aid training.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, safeguarding and EHCP processes.
- Competency in delegated tasks (e.g. gastrostomy care, epilepsy support) – training can be provided.
